The Songs of Advent

The Songs of Advent

Series start date: December 3rd, 2023

It is the new start of the Christian year. Advent is a season of waiting leading up to Christmas. Our yearly focus on Christ’s return is met with our reflection on Christ’s birth. This year, we explore the birth of Christ by reciting the lyrics of songs included in Luke’s version of the Birth narrative. These lyrics hold within them words of hope, peace, joy, and love.

The beauty of Luke’s version of the birth narrative is his inclusion of unique individuals. One of those characters was named Simeon and he, in response to meeting the Christ child, was offering a praise to God called the Nunc Dimittis. As we prepare for the close of 2023 and start of 2024, we will celebrate the Salvation of God and highlight our part in being the light of God’s salvation to our community and the world.
