Reading the Letter to the Colossians
Along with Ephesians, Philippians and Philemon, Colossians is part of a collection of letters written by the Apostle Paul while he was in prison. A particular issue or situation in Colossae is difficult to uncover. Nonetheless, the contents of this letter point to an intentional effort by Paul to describe the implications of being “raised” with Christ. In this series, we will read Colossians with the intent to grow as disciples of Jesus while inviting others to become disciples of Jesus.

Preaching
The Christians in Colossae have fallen prey to false teaching and an insistence on rule keeping rather than dependence on the grace of God. Traditions and practices have their place, but not at the cost of church unity or dismissal of the work of God. We explore the need for our works and practices to flow out of God activity and not our traditions and preferences.

Superior
by Dion Frasier
Preaching
Some have regarded Colossians 1:15-23 as one of the most powerful theological statements about Jesus. From a prison cell, Paul makes the claim that Jesus is far higher than any other entity in the world. This stands in stark contrast to the claims made by the Roman empire where the “Caesar” was Lord. Where in our lives to we struggle with Jesus’ superiority?
