Paul gets back to commending the Colossians and wants them to know that their lives, being raised in Christ, will potentially lead to others coming to Christ. The list of names included in his closing demonstrate the need for everyone in the body to participate in the spiritual work of growing the kingdom.

Family relationships have a way of communicating much about our Christian identity. In Paul’s comments about family relationships, we should see a call to pour love and care into our spouses, our parents and our children.

The blessing of being chosen cannot be understated. Bring chosen assumes the embrace of behaviors that demonstrate this distinctive call. There is much to be displayed in our relationships with one another and the participation in the spiritual life in the community of faith.

The Christians in Colossae have fallen prey to false teaching and an insistence on rule keeping rather than dependence on the grace of God.
