The Story of a Superstar and Vagabond

While Jesus was immensely popular, it wasn't because he had money, position or street "cred." In fact his enormous popularity hinged on him identifying with a large segment of the population of Jews. He was poor and wandered around like many poor people. It made for an unsavory looking savior, but that was the way of Christ.
