Meditation
  • While it may be easy to go through life alone and isolation, this passage written by Solomon clearly teaches us the power of teamwork and "two are greater than one". Life was meant to be done together…with a spouse, with a family, with friends, with brothers and sisters in Church. I've learned that rarely in life is it better or more effective to accomplish something alone. There's always strength in numbers and it's true that the whole is often greater than the sum of the parts. Each month I get to witness this first-hand at our Community Care dinners. Some months the level of participation varies, but when we have a good showing everything just seems to work better. Groceries are passed out and transported to vehicles with ease. Dinner is served hot and with love. Smiles and conversation abound. The work of Jesus is accomplished! Solomon teaches us that we should value relationships over possessions, people over things, and fellowship over entertainment. Together, we accomplish more!

Scripture(s)
  • Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

    Two are better than one,
because they have a good return for their labor:
10 If either of them falls down,
one can help the other up.
    But pity anyone who falls
and has no one to help them up.
11 Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm.
But how can one keep warm alone?
12 Though one may be overpowered,
        two can defend themselves.
A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.
