Meditation
  • The world is saturated with examples of “perfection”–standards of beauty, intelligence, health, and spirituality that you are expected to strive to attain. With the constant, overwhelming input from sources like magazines, television, movies,”motivational” reading, instagram, and facebook, it’s easy to feel inadequate in comparison.

    When you remember that you were individually created by the God of the universe, these superficial demands from the world start to seem insignificant. As God created the great wonders of nature at the beginning of time, he was at the same time creating you, knowing every intimate detail of your being and every second of your life. If He personally formed every part of you, then you must be completely, fearfully, wonderfully made! No instagram post could ever deny the beauty of God’s masterpiece--you.

    Step out of the game of measuring your worth against the world, and step into the peace of knowing that the God of Creation, who formed you in His own image, calls you worthy. There is no lasting satisfaction in obsessing over what social media says the world is doing. When you let go of the influence of trivial measures of success and tune into what God desires for your life, there is endless fulfilment to be found.

    As the psalm says, the thoughts of the Lord are so vast that they could be searched with no end. Just think, the immensity of His being is infinitely greater than the expanse of even the internet. It is a precious thing to pursue this heart of God, to spend time with Him and in His word. Simply start to seek out His presence through prayer, and you will find more self-assurance and delight than the standards of the world could ever begin to offer.

Scripture(s)
  • Psalm 139:13-18

    13 For you created my inmost being;
        you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
    14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
        your works are wonderful,
        I know that full well.
    15 My frame was not hidden from you
        when I was made in the secret place,
        when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
    16 Your eyes saw my unformed body;
        all the days ordained for me were written in your book
        before one of them came to be.
    17 How precious to me are your thoughts, God!
        How vast is the sum of them!
    18 Were I to count them,
        they would outnumber the grains of sand—
        when I awake, I am still with you.
